The Wonder Girls have done it again!!……. organised an incredible pre-Chinese New Year Luncheon held at the Yu Restaurant in The Gardens Mall on 22 January 2026. The Yu, with its award-winning chef, is one of the pork-free fine-dining restaurants in the Oriental Group.

A special menu priced at RM80 per person, including taxes was curated for the lucky 43 Enak members and 5 guests to celebrate the Year of the Fire Horse. We started off polling attendees as to their Zodiac sign, only to discover there were no Horses among us. Alas, a late-arriving guest turned out to be a Fire Horse!! Wonder woman, Dato Pat Chia, introduced us to the key features of the Year of the
Horse and our first dish on the menu: Crispy Fish Skin Yee Sang. This special salad is tossed 10 times in unison by everyone to bring us abundance for the coming year.

The Yee Sang was followed by Three Treasures Dim Sum, consisting of Siu Mai, Scallop and Prawn Dumpling and Signature Crispy Chicken Char Siu Bao…all three symbolic of Abundance, Joy, and Good Fortune. Most of us had never tasted a bao quite so incredibly delicious!

Next came a fabulous tree of ‘Lychee Balls’, wafted in smoke. Lychee symbolises romance, and the red skin brings good fortune! Surprise, surprise…the balls were filled with prawn meat…not lychee! Typhoon Shelter Radish Cake was next, named for its cooking style, symbolising good luck and auspicious beginnings. Out came the Peking Duck served two ways, symbolising prosperity and togetherness! First in wrappers, then with the long- life noodles for longevity. For wealth and good fortune, Stuffed Bean Curd Skin with Mushrooms and Vegetables followed.

Two desserts representing enduring love and nobility ended our luncheon on a high note: Honeycomb Cake with Gula Melaka and Osmanthus Jelly with Water chestnut.

What a spectacular sight we made all in red!
