A week ago, I got invited to eat Thai food with my mom. This unexpected opportunity came when one of my mom’s friends got sick and I was subbed in. And so, with nothing but food on my mind, I jumped at the chance. I, along with a total of 21 other people went to the restaurant called Mini Thai, and it was an unforgettable experience. This Enak! dinner was hosted by Margaret Vasna and she organised the scrumptious menu.
We started the night with some lumpia and Fried Enoki. The lumpia was crunchy and soft on the inside; I did not even notice it was vegetarian until someone told me, due to how savoury it was. The enoki was on another level as well. The perfect crunch and pairs well with the sweet and spicy sauce.
The drink was a hot cup of lemongrass ginger water. The aromatics were immediately available the minute the first few cups were served; left and right I could smell the lemongrass. The water was soothing for the throat and made me warm inside, a wonderful start to the dinner.
For our main, we had the choice of Tom yam with prawn, Thai basil chicken rice, or green curry. As the person who LOVES Tom yam, I obviously chose the best option. It did not disappoint. The Tom yam was thick and spicy in all the right ways. My only complaint is the lack of any other vegetables or meat. Inside the Tom yam, there were only two small prawns, and the rest was cabbage with one fried enoki on the side. Nonetheless, it was still a nice dish with the rice and egg.
Finally, we had our dessert. Fluffy bread smothered with butter in the centre with a side of Kaya that’s homemade in-house. The bread was thick and soft; the butter was salty but not overpowering the natural taste of the bread and the kaya was sweet and delicious, reminiscent of Malaysia’s kaya butter toast.
Overall, we paid RM40 per person, including tax. The meal was great, and everyone enjoyed themselves.
