I had the opportunity to dine at Yoshifuku Japanese Dining on March 23rd Enak! session hosted by MCG member Kyoko Hidaka. Overall, it was an amazing and well-rounded experience that highlighted both quality ingredients and thoughtful presentation.
Seventeen Enak! members and their five guests enjoyed the specially curated meal priced at RM80. The meal was centred around a Bento Box set, which came with miso soup and chawan mushi, a savoury steamed egg custard. The chawan mushi stood out immediately—it was smooth, delicate, and packed with subtle umami flavour, making it a comforting start to the meal. The miso soup also complemented it well, offering a warm and balanced taste.
The bento box itself featured a variety of dishes, each carefully prepared. The Hassun (appetiser), a Japanese-style omelette infused with bonito broth, was light yet flavorful with a slightly sweet and savoury profile. The salmon sashimi was fresh and clean-tasting, reflecting good quality and very fresh seafood. Another highlight was the fried shrimp coated with crunchy rice bits which added a satisfying texture and a unique twist compared to typical tempura. For the mains, the Sakura Gohan (sakura-flavoured steamed rice) was subtly fragrant and visually appealing and paired very nicely with the saba teriyaki (teriyaki mackerel). The mackerel was cooked well with a rich glaze that balanced sweetness and saltiness without overpowering the fish.
The meal concluded with matcha mousse and strawberries which provided a refreshing and slightly earthy finish. Light and delicately sweet, the dessert offered a refreshing close that complemented the overall meal beautifully.
I also appreciated that the restaurant was accommodating to dietary preferences as vegetarian diners were offered appropriate substitutions, and there was a choice of green tea or water to accompany all the meals on top of that.
Overall, Yoshifuku Japanese Dining delivered a thoughtfully curated meal with a good balance of flavors, textures, and presentation. The experience felt both authentic and well-balanced, and the hosting by Kyoko added a welcoming and personal touch to the evening. It is certainly a place I would gladly return to.
