Crazy Rich Asians is about three super rich pedigreed Chinese families. When Nicholas Young, who is the heir to one of the massive fortunes in Asia, brings home his ABC (American born Chinese girlfriend) to the wedding of the season, it generates gossip, scheming and drama. Rachel Chu the girlfriend has no idea of Nick’s wealth and is completely overwhelmed with all the pomp and splendour that she is surrounded with. Crazy Rich Asians is also an insider’s look at the Asian jetset, a clash between old money and new money and between overseas Chinese and Mainland Chinese. It’s a novel about family traditions, being young, in love and being gloriously, crazily rich.
The group thought that it was an easy read, light and entertaining. It also highlighted how family traditions were of utmost importance and how not only Asians but also people from other parts of the world wanted to preserve their family traditions. The group rated the book a 6/7 out of 10.
