Peggy De Silva and I planned for the September Enak at Restoran Wan Fo Yuan at No 8 Jalan Panggong in Chinatown.
This part of Chinatown is proving to be a pretty interesting 'foodie' enclave with the Malaya Hainan Restaurant down the road and the Old China Cafe on the adjacent street.
We checked out this 30 year old Chinese Restaurant a couple of months back and decided the traditional Buddhist ‘mock’ vegetarian fare would be a good experience for our members.
The ambience is humble but it is comfortable and has air conditioning.

‘Ah Foong Cheh’ helped to put together a menu for 17 of us to enjoy: - ‘ Abalone’ mushroom, yam basket, fried wonton, clay pot tofu, ‘sea food’ with broccoli, fried ‘goose’ and vegetarian noodles. |

As the moon festival was around the corner we ended up with a selection of moon cakes to savour.

After lunch there was time for Enakers and their guests to browse and shop in the neighboring stores, (a wholesale gift shop and a Chinese Art supply Store). A few of us went upstairs to Aku Café for our favorite beverages.
From the feed- back we had, everyone seemed to have an enjoyable experience. The yam basket, wontons and the ‘ seafood’ with broccoli were favorites. Some members couldn’t get over how much the ‘ mock’ abalone and shrimps looked like and tasted like the real thing ☺ |
