July, 2017 - Kim Poh Charcoal Chicken Rice
July Enak! - Kim Poh Charcoal Chicken Rice
For the July Enak! Nine intrepid Enakers travelled to an Industrial estate in Segambut to taste the famous Malaysian Claypot Chicken Rice at Kim Poh Charcoal Chicken Rice.  Claypot Chicken Rice is one of my many food favourites in Malaysia, I love the slight salted fish taste, the Chinese sausage and best of all, the crunchy rice baked at the bottom of the claypot - best to ask the waiters to mix it up before you eat as they are stronger and can get that crunchy part lifted from the base.
I must admit that that description doesn't do it justice, you just have to try it.  We also ordered some braised lettuce but the Chicken rice was the absolute star of the meal.  The restaurant is one of many restaurants in Malaysia which concentrate on preparing one dish and doing it spectacularly well.  Also available is a variety of soups, but we opted to dive straight into the chicken rice.

Hailing from Kampar, Kim Poh actually is a direct translation of the town’s name in the Hokkien dialect. It’s been around since 1975 and the food is delicious! The chicken chunks are marinated in dark soy sauce and Chinese rice wine, which explains the fragrance of the chicken that’s immersed into the moist and crunchy at the bottom rice!  Cooked on a charcoal fire makes such a big difference.
