Oct 2015 - Restaurant Sao Nam

For October Enak we mixed it up a bit – staying in Asia but a bit northeast of Malaysia.....exploring the cuisine of Vietnam. The group ventured to a popular Vietnamese restaurant in Bukit Bintang – one street parallel to Jalan Alor....Sao Nam Vietnamese Restaurant.

There was a huge turn out for lunch, with over twenty-one members and guests in attendance! The simple décor is reminiscent of old world Vietnam with propaganda posters hanging from the walls.

Since the menu is so diverse we opted to give attendees the choice to order the set lunch or off the menu.  The waitstaff did a great job handling such a large crowd; kudos to them for their patience and wonderful service.

The most popular meal ordered by far was the set lunch - the grilled lemongrass chicken and/or beef noodle salad: bun thit noung. The fresh herbs and spices along side the aromatic grilled meat, laid on a bed of noodles made for a perfect meal in a bowl.  This set lunch came with two deep fried chicken spring rolls: cha gio for a grand total of RM22

The pomelo salad: goi buoi,  beef noodle soup pho bo, fresh prawn spring roll goi cuon, and Vietnamese crispy pancake banh xeo were also favoritesSao Nam Restaurant is pork free and serves halal meat.

The lime juice with ginger was a spicy refreshing twist on lime juice; more than half of the crowd ordered this delightful refreshing libation. We highly recommend this restaurant for ambiance, service and delicious Vietnamese fare.
